KENYA
In Kenya, we work with Build Africa Kenya, to deliver the most effective solutions for disadvantaged children and young people. Read on to find out what these are.
Build a School
Build a School
In 2003 the Kenyan government announced the provision of free primary education for all. However, resources have not been sufficient to meet the growing needs. As a result primary schools are understaffed and under-equipped. Build Africa is targeting four of the neediest districts in Kenya so as to increase the educational resources available for the poorest children. Build Africa also provides training for school committees and parent and teacher associations in order to build their capacity to support their schools.

Build a Business
Build Africa provides young people with the opportunity to learn vocational and business skills in marketable areas such as carpentry, tailoring or masonry. Many young people lack the initial capital required to start their own business. By providing small loans with low interest rates to committed individuals Build Africa can support the long-term aspirations of young people, giving them a better chance of escaping the poverty cycle.

HIV/AIDS & reproductive health
HIV/AIDS & reproductive health
The devastating effect of HIV/AIDS on communities in Kenya undermines efforts to build a better future. Build Africa believes it is vital that young people are raised with an understanding of how HIV/AIDS spreads and how it can be dealt with. Build Africa is providing young people with the training they need to lead their communities in new initiatives to combat the pandemic. A peer education scheme has been started in schools and youth groups, training young people on how to raise understanding of HIV/AIDS.
